Objective To compare rehabilitation outcome of schizophrenia patients in open and close Ward. Methods 80 patients in Mental Hygiene Prophylactico-- therapeutic Hospital were divided into two groups,the control group and the treatment group. The control group was givrn traditional close ward treatment. The treatment group adopted open ward treatment. The study accepted the inhospital patients rehabilitation evaluation scale （IPROS） as evaluation tool. The data was taken every three month. Results There was a good correlation between open ward treatment and better rehabilitation. The treatment patient had significant improvement compared to control group （P 〈 0. 05）. Conclusions The open ward--based treatment could help patient rehabilitation. Open ward should be considered for psychiatry treatment.
