    Abstract:

    Objective To compare the effects of music therapy on behavioral and psychological symptoms of patients with different severity of dementia. Methods A total of 80 dementiapatients in Chongqing Mental Health Hospital from January 2017 to June 2017 were selected. On the basis of psychotropic medication treatment, all the patients enrolled received music therapy for 12 weeks. Neuropsychiatric Inventory(NPI) and Clinical Dementia Rating scale( CDR) were applied to assess patients' behavioral and psychological symptoms and the severity of dementia respectively. The scores of NPI of patients with different severity of dementia were compared. Results After intervention, the NPI scores of all 3 groups of patients with mild, moderate and severe dementia increased than before, however there was no significant difference among the 3 dementia groups (P> 0.05). Conclusions Music therapy is effective onbehavioral and psychological symptomsin patients with different severity of dementia.
