Chronic alcohol consumption can induce cognitive impairment， whereby the exact mechanism remains unknown. Elevated plasma homocysteine level are closely related to cognitive impairment in alcohol-dependent patients. This article reviews the research of homocysteine and cognitive impairment in alcohol dependent patients，from the aspects of biological effects of homocysteine， the relationship between homocysteine and alcohol-related cognitive impairment， and treatment progress.
